A calorie tracker that gets out of your way

Brutto is a minimalist AI calorie tracker for iPhone. Take a photo of a meal and it estimates calories, carbs, fat and protein in seconds, with every ingredient listed and editable. No ads, no account, and the food log stays on the phone.

AI photo scan

Point the camera at a plate. Brutto estimates calories and macros for the whole portion and lists each ingredient with its weight, so a wrong guess is one tap to fix.

Barcode and food search

Scan a packaged product (Open Food Facts) or search more than 8,000 generic foods, including European and Swiss foods, offline. Or type a meal in by hand.

One screen, big numbers

What you ate today, or what is left, in type you can read from arm's length. Swipe between days or open the calendar.

A plan that fits

Set your goal, target weight and pace. Brutto works out daily calories and macros with the Mifflin-St Jeor formula and shows when you will reach your target.

Apple Health

Optional. Fills in your body stats, keeps your weight current, adds today's workouts to your budget and saves every meal to Health.

Score and tips

With Pro, every meal gets a nutrition score and one or two concrete tips, like a swap that adds protein or fibre.

Questions

What is Brutto?
Brutto is a minimalist AI calorie tracker for iPhone. Take a photo of a meal and it estimates calories, carbs, fat and protein in seconds, with every ingredient listed and editable. No ads, no account, and the food log stays on the phone.
How does the AI photo calorie scan work?
The photo goes through Brutto's server to Google's Gemini model, which estimates the portion, the ingredients and their weights, and the calories, carbs, fat and protein. Photos are not stored by Brutto. You can edit any ingredient and the totals recalculate.
How accurate are the estimates?
Like any photo-based estimate, they can be off, especially for hidden oil, sauces and mixed dishes. Brutto shows an estimate range and lets you correct portions. For packaged food, the barcode scan uses the label values.
Is Brutto free?
Yes. Barcode scanning, food search and manual entry are free and unlimited, and every device gets 10 free AI photo scans. Brutto Pro, a monthly or yearly subscription, adds unlimited AI scans plus a nutrition score and tips for every meal.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up, no email and no ads. The food log and body stats stay on your iPhone; the server only keeps a random ID to count free scans.
Does it work with Apple Health?
Yes, if you allow it. Brutto reads height, weight, age, sex and active energy, and writes each logged meal as dietary energy and macros. Health data never leaves the phone.
Is there an Android version?
Not yet. Brutto is for iPhone (iOS 17 or later). An Android version may follow.
How is Brutto different from other calorie counters?
It does one thing: logging food fast. There are no feeds, challenges, streaks or ads, the main screen is a single number, and the AI scan lists ingredients you can edit instead of giving one opaque total.
How can I get it?
Brutto is in public beta on TestFlight: testflight.apple.com/join/TanWZks7. The App Store release is coming soon.
