Brutto is a calorie tracker. This page says what it collects and why. Last updated: October 2026.
On your phone
Your food log, saved foods and body stats (age, height, weight, goal and target weight) are stored only on your device. They are not sent to our server.
On our server
- A random ID created by the app. It is not linked to your name, email, Apple ID or advertising ID.
- How many AI scans that ID has used, and whether it has an active Pro subscription (verified with Apple).
AI scans and tips
When you take an AI scan, the photo is sent through our server to Google's Gemini API to estimate nutrition. For Pro, your daily targets and goal go with the photo so the meal can be scored at the same time; when you open a meal from search or a barcode, its name, ingredients and numbers are sent the same way to score it and suggest tips. We do not store the photos. Google processes them under the Gemini API terms.
Apple Health
Only if you connect it, and only for what you allow in Apple's permission screen:
- Brutto reads your height, weight, date of birth and sex to set your goal, your latest weight to keep it current, and today's active energy to add workouts to your day.
- Brutto writes each meal you log (calories, carbs, fat and protein) to Health, and removes it there when you edit or delete it.
Health data stays on your phone. It is never sent to our server or to Google, never used for advertising, and never shared or sold. You can turn access off any time in the Health app or in Settings → Health.
Barcodes and food search
Barcode lookups go straight from your phone to Open Food Facts; only the barcode number is sent. When you search for food, the words you type are also sent to Open Food Facts to find branded products. The built-in food library works offline.
No tracking
No ads, no analytics SDKs, no selling or sharing of data.
Deleting your data
Settings → Delete all my data erases the log on your phone and unlinks any subscription on our server. An anonymous scan counter for the random ID is kept so the free-scan limit can't be reset; it contains no personal data.
Not medical advice
Estimates can be wrong. Talk to a doctor before changing your diet if you have a medical condition.
